Movie studios tend to skip NYCC, so I wouldn’t expect any huge film news to come out of it. Don’t expect anyone or anything specific to be there, and just plan to have a good time regardless. ![]() If you wait to see who is attending, you’ll probably miss out on tickets. Basically, if you want to go, buy your tickets when they go on sale. While special guests will start being announced soon, the schedule doesn’t start getting released until September – well after tickets go on sale – with the full schedule not being available until probably the week before the con. As a frequent attendee, I have fun every year and can always find something to enjoy, but a lot of people hold out for specific guests and can be disappointed when those guests don’t appear. Unlike SDCC, where you can almost completely count on a show or a film having a panel, NYCC can often be hit or miss with its guests. Who Goes to NYCC? It’s not quite got the scale or spectacle of its west coast cousin, but it has been steadily rising in prominence for the past several years. New York Comic Con (NYCC) is a four-day comic and pop culture convention held annually in the Javits Convention Center in New York City. I’ll update this post for 2023 as things get announced. ReedPop (the company behind NYCC) is constantly changing its process, and I’m basing a lot of these tips off of last year. Keep in mind, a lot of the information in this post will be specific to the current year, or not even be relevant anymore. ![]() I live in New York City and have been attending New York Comic Con since 2010, so I put together this basic guide for anyone who’s interested in attending and doesn’t quite know where to start. Beyond 15 ads, the exposure rating declines to 20 and the number of new customers reached declines to 1200 per ad. ![]() For radio ads, the preceding data are reliable up to a maximum of 15 ads. For planning purposes, HJ recommended reducing the exposure rating to 55 and the estimate of the potential new customers reached to 1500 for any television ads beyond 10. After 10 ads, the benefit is expected to decline. For television, HJ stated that the exposure rating of 90 and the 4000 new customers reached per ad were reliable for the first 10 television ads. As expected, the more expensive television advertisement has the highest exposure effectiveness rating along with the greatest potential for reaching new customers.Īt this point, the HJ consultants pointed out that the data concerning exposure and reach were only applicable to the first few ads in each medium. It is a function of such things as image, message recall, visual and audio appeal, and so on. In addition to recommendations for the use of a conversational tone, addressing feedback with positivity, and implementing social customer relationship management, it was also recommended for the proprietors of small businesses to use analytics in order to benefit from the data collected from their customers. The exposure rating is viewed as a measure of the value of the ad to both existing customers and potential new customers. Limitations of the sample size were appreciated, and recommendations for future studies with a clustered sample including ethnic, minority, and women-owned businesses were made. The findings showed limited use of formalized marketing plans to complement social customer relationship management. The emergent themes included aiding in decision-making, enhancing customer engagement, increasing visibility of the business and cultivating customer loyalty. Contrary to the initial hypothesis, the findings showed that the proprietors of small businesses in Southern West Virginia are aware of the potential of social customer relationship management. ![]() One-on-one, semi-structured interviews were conducted on the participants and data analyzed through thematic analysis. A total of 20 participants were equally drawn from four county chambers of commerce in Southern West Virginia using the stratified sampling method. The study used a qualitative research methodology and a case study design. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence that the use of social customer relationship management has on the small businesses located in Southern West Virginia. Despite the availability of a more cost-effective alternative in the form of social customer relationship management, there is a failure to utilize the practice because of a lack of knowledge of the use of social media platforms for the purposes of customer relationship management. The limited-resource context in which small businesses operate impedes the ability of the proprietors of small businesses in implementing customer relationship management. 1/30/2024 0 Comments C230 kompressor 2004 mufflerUpdate October 2016: Just turned 68K miles. Narrator: Many filmmakers focus on the grit of the city, but some scenes call for a more buttoned-up New York setting, like this one that pops up again and again in scenes involving business or government meetings. Malaika: The end of the first "John Wick" movie, there was a car chase, and then a car crashed into this dry dock. The amount of open space makes it possible to execute wild stunts, like when "Daredevil" blew up a boat on the docks. Narrator: Bodies have been dumped at this dry dock in multiple shows. Malaika: You want that, you know, really industrial or, "Oh, no, somebody's getting murdered on the docks at night!" Great place to go to. When everything is emptied out, the abandoned docks and hulking warehouses can create an ominous look, exactly what crime shows are after. That's why scouts return again and again to this shipyard, where 70,000 people once worked before it closed down in 1966. Brooklyn once had a busy industrial waterfront, but over the past few decades, high-rise apartment complexes and office buildings have moved in and turned the former manufacturing hub much more residential. Narrator: The facility's giant parking lot was even dressed up as Afghanistan for "The Code."ĭramatic mystery scenes, villain face-offs, and wild car stunts have all used this very backdrop: the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a vestige of industrial New York. You can combine them into one day and film it there, for example. Malaika: Multiple cellblocks can look like different prisons if you didn't want to just be at one.īruno Barros: There are sections that could work as a hospital, and it's great because, let's say you have to marry two locations together and those scenes don't fill a full day. Narrator: The location is surprisingly versatile. 12 or 13 minutes uncut just moving through the entire space, down the hallways, past the cells, out to the front door. Malaika Johnson: It's that kind of facility, and there aren't that many, that lends itself to having these really long, unbroken takes, like "Daredevil" season three. That helps for choreographing action sequences. It also comes with a lot of space, with 70 acres of grounds and these long stretches of hallway. This decommissioned prison in Staten Island has everything you could ever need for a jail or prison scene, from the barbed wire and guard tower in front to real cells inside. If you look closely at the prison scenes in a bunch of New York movies, you'll see these were all filmed at Arthur Kill Correctional Facility. ![]() We spoke with five location scouts to find out why these spots are in such high demand. Narrator: This is just one of several New York filming locations you see pop up again and again in shows and movies. It gives this basically cascading overhang of just metalwork. Narrator: The underpass is known for its viaduct, an arching structure with a grandeur filmmakers are drawn to.Īaron Hurvitz: It gets a lot of play because it is just a really visually captivating space. Samson Jacobson: When you stand underneath Riverside Drive, I mean, it is the classic abandoned New York location that everybody always wants. ![]() Narrator: This is a scene from "The Amazing Spider-Man." This is from Marvel's "Luke Cage." And this is a scene from "Joker." Notice something similar? They're all shot in the exact same place: the 12th Avenue underpass in Harlem. These were typically very light at the bow, having all their machinery concentrated at the stern, which allowed easy beaching on any gently sloping coast, and often were equipped with a bow ramp for fast unloading. Instead, a new class was designed, based on the widespread pattern of the Black sea merchant steamers. These, however, proved too small and unseaworthy for their intended Black sea theater - they were intended for the planned Marmara Sea landings. The Imperial Russian Navy soon followed suit, building a series of similar landing motor barges of the so-called Bolinder-class, named after the supplier of the diesels installed in them. ![]() A plan was devised to land British heavy tanks from pontoons in support of the Third Battle of Ypres, but this was abandoned. The boats had bulletproof sides and a ramp at the bow for disembarkation. The engines mainly ran on heavy oil and ran at a speed of approximately 5 knots (9.3 km/h 5.8 mph). 'X' Lighters, known to the soldiers as 'Beetles', carried about 500 men, displaced 135 tons and were based on London barges being 105 feet 6 inches long, 21 feet wide, and 7 ft 6 inches deep (32.2 m × 6.4 m × 2.3 m deep). The first use took place after they had been towed to the Aegean and performed successfully in the 6 August landing at Suvla Bay of IX Corps, commanded by Commander Edward Unwin. A design was created in four days resulting in an order for 200 'X' Lighters with a spoon-shaped bow to take shelving beaches and a drop down frontal ramp. In February 1915, orders were placed for the design of purpose built landing craft. Initial landings during the Gallipoli campaign took place in unmodified rowing boats that were extremely vulnerable to attack from the Turkish shore defenses. : 40 Origins Īnzac Beach amphibious landing, on April 25, 1915.ĭuring World War I, the mass mobilization of troops equipped with rapid-fire weapons quickly rendered such boats obsolete. They transported 1,200 men in the first landing and took on board 600 men in less than 2 hours for the second landing. ![]() In order to support amphibious operations during the landing in Pisagua (1879) by carrying significant quantities of cargo, and landing troops directly onto an unimproved shore, the Government of Chile built flat-bottomed landing craft, called Chalanas. These rowing boats were sufficient, if inefficient, in an era when marines were effectively light infantry, participating mostly in small-scale campaigns in far-flung colonies against less well-equipped indigenous opponents. In the days of sail, the ship's boats were used as landing craft. In all cases, they were known by an abbreviation derived from the official name rather than by the full title. The control point (too rudimentary to call a bridge on LCA and similar craft) was normally at the extreme rear of the vessel, as were the engines. This made them difficult to control and very uncomfortable in rough seas. Production of landing craft peaked during World War II, with a significant number of different designs produced in large quantities by the United Kingdom and United States.īecause of the need to run up onto a suitable beach, World War II landing craft were flat-bottomed, and many designs had a flat front, often with a lowerable ramp, rather than a normal bow. The term excludes landing ships, which are larger. Landing craft are small and medium seagoing watercraft, such as boats and barges, used to convey a landing force ( infantry and vehicles) from the sea to the shore during an amphibious assault.
